Following a restless night spent tossing and turning, Hannah was in need of some seriously strong coffee before making any decision on what to wear today. Maybe she should have declined the twins’ offer. That was a moot point now.

Since early this morning, Hannah had replayed the surprised look on Cody’s face. Yesterday when she thanked him for inviting her to join them on their outing today, it was clear he had no idea that McKenzie and Madison had taken it upon themselves to extend an invitation. They were determined to play matchmaker.

Dressed in her candy cane flannel pajamas and a cup of hot coffee warming her hands, Hannah scanned her walk-in closet with hopes that something would stand out. Since she’d never cut down her own Christmas tree, she wasn’t quite sure of the proper attire. With a light snow in the forecast for today, it only made sense that a pair of her favorite jeans, a thick cable-knit sweater, along with her fleece-lined boots were in order.

Keep it simple.

Why was she so concerned about her outfit, anyway?

By the time Hannah arrived at Cody’s house, her windshield wipers were fighting a losing battle to keep up with the falling precipitation. The light snow prediction was way off the mark. It was near whiteout conditions as she put her SUV in Park, unfastened the seat belt and carefully made her way up the front steps of the porch.

“She’s here, she’s here!”

Outside the front door, Hannah heard the excited voices along with the footsteps running through the house. Before she had a chance to knock, the door swung open to reveal the twins’ smiling faces.

“Hi Miss Simpson! Isn’t it cool it’s snowing?” McKenzie’s eyes sparkled as though it was Christmas morning.

“Hi girls. I thought you’d be enjoying the snow.” Hannah stomped her boots to knock off the icy clumps stuck to the heels.

“Good morning.” Cody appeared at the door dressed in jeans along with a red-and-black-checkered flannel shirt.

Hannah’s pulse quickened as their eyes connected, igniting a warmth through her entire body. Maybe it was a good thing the snow was coming down so hard. She desperately needed a cooldown, but his handsome good looks were making that impossible at the moment.

“Please, come inside out of the cold. I have a fire going in the family room. We can get you warmed up while the girls finish their breakfast.” Cody motioned her inside. “I’ll take your coat.”

Hannah kept the fact that she was already warmed up to herself. She slipped off her outerwear and shook off the melted snowflakes over the front mat. “It’s really coming down out there. Before I left the house, the local weatherman said only light snow this morning.”

“Yeah, they can’t seem to get it right lately. The storm they predicted the other day never materialized, but this looks like it could result in measurable snow.”

“I hope it becomes a blizzard! Then Miss Simpson will have to stay here with us.” McKenzie danced around the foyer.

“Yeah, that would be so cool.
